The Judges

Main ring

Karla Moffitt | Junction City, OR, USA

Karla has been involved with Arabian horses for over 55 years, beginning as a youth working summers at stable. With experience across Arabians, Quarter Horses, and Morgans as a breeder, trainer, and exhibitor, she has been judging for 15 years at local, regional, and national levels, plus some international invitations to judge in Canada, Poland, and South Africa.

She also holds a card with the American Stock Horse Association and has served in numerous local, regional, and national club roles. With everything she has achieved over her career, nothing has been more rewarding than watching youth and amateurs develop, set goals and achieve them.

In the ring, she prizes simplicity and a well-presented horse that's not overshown.

Sport Horse

Donna Kavanaugh | Okotoks, AB, CANADA

Donna comes from a multigenerational horse family and has been involved in the Arabian horse community for over 50 years. With experience as a trainer, amateur exhibitor, and coach, she has been judging Arabians for 21 years and recently received her Saddle Seat Equitation and Jumper Card from Equestrian Canada.

She currently owns and operates a boarding and lesson barn, and her greatest passion has always been empowering others to discover their own love for horses. Among her career highlights are earning a National Champion title on a horse her parents bred and she trained, and watching her sons go on to claim national wins in English, Western, Park Horse, and Sport Horse.

In the ring, she is drawn to movement above all else — a lame horse in the show ring is her one true pet peeve.

The Photographer

Dallas Gerbrandt

Dallas Gerbrandt of Steinbach is an Arabian horse photographer whose work is rooted in a lifelong connection to the breed. Raised on a farm that bred Arabian horses, he grew up immersed in the barn and show world, developing a deep appreciation for the horses and the moments that surround them.

What began as a passion for photographing the atmosphere of horse shows has grown into a career focused on capturing emotion, energy, and storytelling beyond the rail — from quiet connections to the intensity of halter classes. Dallas is now a contributing photographer for Arabian Horse Times Magazine, with images featured in advertisements, promotional campaigns, and cover stories.

In 2024, he was nominated for Photographer of the Year in Arabian Horse Times’ Reader’s Choice Awards — a full-circle moment for the photographer who once dreamed through the pages of the magazine he now photographs for.
